Believe it or not alternative medicine is a $34 billion industry annually in the US. Acupuncture Miami is a very old Chinese modality that is part of alternative medicine. The alternative medicine category is composed of eclectic disciplines and methodologies that are not recognized by conventional modern medical practice. The reason is that many types of alternative medicines cannot stand up to the norms of medical science.
Acupuncture is the application of filiform needles inserted in different parts of the body. These needles are then tweaked or manipulated as they are inserted into points in the body called acupuncture points where just underneath their surface lie energy vessels called meridians. Acupuncturists believe that meridians convey the body’s life force called chi throughout the body and the insertion of the needles in the meridians remove any obstacles to the flow of chi.
Acupuncturists have treated many types of conditions ranging from toothache to addiction and from tinnitus to the nauseating effects of chemotherapy. Acupuncture is most effective in the treatment of pain. Acupuncture is so effective that even the World Health Organization and the US National Institutes of Health officially endorse acupuncture as a valid treatment of dozens of health conditions. Acupuncture has been used in treating depression, epilepsy, asthma and drug addiction to name just a few. Be that as it may it is very strange that there is no scientific evidence that supports the claim of acupuncture being responsible for the treatment of pain. However, almost all evidence point out that acupuncture does not only treat pain but it has a more superior therapeutic effect than analgesics.
Since acupuncture is effective enough to treat drug addiction, it then has also been used successfully in treating nicotine addiction, or cigarette smoking addiction. However, some researchers claim that acupuncture merely aids in mitigating the withdrawal symptoms of smokers when they are just starting to wean themselves out of cigarette smoking.
The way acupuncture helps the smoker to quit is its ability to help the smoker overcome the urge to smoke and the withdrawal symptoms especially when the person quit cold turkey. In order to provide the smoker the means to battle the withdrawal symptoms and the craving, this therapy helps release beneficial chemicals known as endorphins to help the person relax and feel comfortable. The willingness of the person to quit is greatly reinforced with the effect of the endorphins which greatly reduces the cravings and lessens the intensity of the withdrawal symptoms of the person. The person also can be proactive and prevent himself from backsliding into the smoking habit by avoiding places, people and things that may remind him of his old smoking days and discard things such as ashtrays that remind him of smoking.
