Because of bad or lack of information, some people still see acupuncture as some form of pseudo medicinal science. There are doctors, though dwindling in numbers, who belittle it not knowing it has benefited (and still does) countless numbers of people for thousands of years. If only these people practice due diligence, their attitude towards acupuncture might change
Acupuncture Davis is an ancient Chinese medical tradition, which uses reed thin needles to adjust energy imbalances in the energy pathways of the body. These pathways or meridians connect to points in the skin called acupuncture points or acupoints where the needles are applied. The needles stimulate some sort of energy that effectively treats disorders such as ulcers, headaches, arthritis and chronic pain among others. Acupuncture is a very potent analgesic and has in fact, been used as a powerful analgesic in surgeries where the patient has to remain awake during the surgery. Because acupuncture treatment does not have any side effects nor raises blood pressure, it is a safe treatment for most people. Some pregnant women even use acupuncture to facilitate delivery.
Acupuncture is hard to comprehend in the mind of Western medical science. The treatment site does not necessarily mean being the problem area. Acupuncture needles inserted on the ear are meant to correct an imbalance in the lungs, kidneys or stomach. Why this is so is because the ear, for example, has meridians that connect to a major organ that is energy deficient and needs to be revitalized with acupuncture. According to traditional Chinese medicine, the needles allow chi or the body’s vital energy to move unhindered throughout the meridians. When chi is obstructed due to emotional pressures or some other factors, a needle is applied to remove the obstruction in the meridians. The chi flows normally once again helping the body recover from its energy imbalances and disharmonies. Western medical science, on the other hand, believes that acupuncture stimulates the production and secretion of endorphins and these chemicals take away pain as well as stimulate the pituitary gland to produce and release anti-inflammatory chemicals to cure injuries and relieve pain.
Certain techniques of acupuncture such as electro acupuncture have been verified to reduce the inflammatory symptoms in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. This condition paralyzes the body’s muscles and nerves resulting in the weakening of the motor neurons. As ALS progresses in the body, the person’s ability to swallow, move, speak and breathe gets lost. Needless to say, this is a horrible way to die and worse, a horrible way to exist.
The benefit of acupuncture for the relief of ALS symptoms alone warrants the respect that acupuncture deserves as a wonderful gift for the human race.
